INTERPRETATION:
There is a poetry in paint and nature, seasons, water, and cycle of shapes and structures, embalmed with light. No moment is the same, and in the process of turning up to the canvas, the palette in my imagination becomes suspended in the beauty of the present.
A painting can start out with a composition and shape, but eventually takes on its own form, bringing itself into being.
It starts with capturing an idea. Immersing myself in the shapes, the light or season, the textures, smell and senses using photography or sketches. It then transcends to the base layers of texture, colour, washing on and off, dripping and scraping. The final marks dictate the energy, the mood and atmosphere until an inner conclusion is reached, and waits further interpretation in the viewers eye.
BIO:
I consider myself an expressive painter. I grew up surrounded by fabrics in South Manchester as such my brain is imprinted with texture.
I’m interested in how we attach meaning to marks, and how that meaning is shaped over time by intersectional aspects. I studied BA Hons Social Anthropology in French and Spanish at Aix en Provence University and Seville University. Creative expression and wellbeing are close to my heart and I also have an MA in Art Therapy from the University of Hertfordshire. I’m passionate about how art and creative expression makes a difference to our lives.
I focused fully on my practice since 2012 and participated in various London Art Fairs and Open competitions. I received mentoring by Paul Regan ARWS and am part of the North London Studio Friday Collective, and a creative community in my North London church. I’m honoured that my pieces are held in private collections all over the world from USA, Australia, Switzerland, Iran, Israel, Tokyo, Spain and UK.
